Brian Wanyama

Founder and CEO

Brian Wanyama

Brian founded Matwana Matatu Culture in October 2010. His passion for matatus began when he was in primary school, as he would admire the art on them on his way home from school. He admired the vibrant graffiti, the hype from the matatu crews as well as how speedy they would move in comparison to the conventional public transport vehicles. His love for art is what prompted his friends in the matatu industry to start calling him ‘graff’ and brand him the matatu ambassador.

He started an interactive group as well as a page on Facebook to promote the culture. The online platforms he currently runs are on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and on two websites. The youtube platform showcases the matatus live in action and the other platforms are used as picture galleries and for interaction. He has been recognized by various media outlets such as Royal Media Services and Media Max (K24) which currently airs the Matwana Matatu Culture TV Show. Various local companies have also awarded him e.g My Hero Award by Indomie Kenya, I am Legend Award by Africa spirits and the Best Social Media Page Award during the 2016 Nganya awards.

He has had interview features in: Radio France Internationale, Forbes Africa, Cafe Ngoma on Ebru Tv, Nottingham Trent University study, Abiria Magazine, CNN’s Inside Africa, EFE TV, South Africa’s SAfm, K24 Tv, All Def Digital and What’s Good Live. He is proud of the progress the industry has made with his help because the industry employs millions of youth.
